What Is an LED Display Module and Who Is It For?
An LED display module is the basic building block of an LED screen. Each module integrates LEDs, PCB, driver ICs, data and power connectors, and mechanical fixing points. Multiple LED modules form a cabinet, and cabinets are assembled into complete LED video walls, billboards or stadium screens.

How to Choose the Right LED Display Module
Selecting LED display modules is not only a price comparison. For professional LED screens, you must balance image quality, reliability, compatibility and total project cost. The steps below are how we guide most engineering partners.
Start by defining the installation environment clearly:
- Indoor LED modules focus on high resolution, comfortable brightness and fine image detail.
- Outdoor LED modules are built for high brightness, waterproof protection and structural robustness.
For semi‑outdoor or shop‑window LED displays, we can recommend suitable brightness levels and protection ratings based on your photos and site descriptions.
Pixel pitch and viewing distance are closely related. As a simple rule:
Minimum comfortable viewing distance (meters) is roughly equal to pixel pitch (mm).
- For 2–4 m viewing distance, consider P1.x, P2, P2.5 or P3 indoor LED display modules.
- For 5–10 m viewing distance, P4–P6 LED modules are typically a good balance of cost and clarity.
- For 10 m or more, P6–P10 LED modules often provide the best value for outdoor billboards and stadium screens.
If you share your site drawings, photos or basic dimensions, our engineers will calculate suitable pixel pitches and provide options.
For new LED screens, we can suggest proven combinations of LED modules and cabinet sizes such as 960×960 mm fixed cabinets or 500×500 mm rental cabinets.
For LED display module replacement on existing screens, compatibility is more sensitive. We usually need:
- Exact module size (width and height in millimeters).
- Clear photos of the front and back of the LED module.
- Close‑up photos of data/power connectors and fixing holes.
- Any labels or codes on the PCB or back cover.
Based on this information, we check whether we can supply a drop‑in replacement or recommend a structurally compatible alternative.
After confirming environment, pixel pitch and module size, we help you fine‑tune performance versus budget:
- Refresh rate for camera‑friendly performance on stages and in broadcast environments.
- Brightness and grayscale for image quality in your specific lighting conditions.
- Driver IC and configuration for stability and energy efficiency.
For most projects, we can prepare two or three LED display module options:
a higher‑spec configuration for premium requirements, and a cost‑optimized option to help you win competitive tenders while meeting essential performance standards.
If you prefer, you can simply send us your project description, and we will go through these steps for you and return a ready‑to‑use module proposal.
LED Display Module FAQ
It’s the core component of an LED screen, containing LEDs, drivers, and circuits that define resolution, brightness, and performance.
Indoor, outdoor, flexible, GOB/COB high-protection, and right-angle modules.
No, all modules in one display should have the same pixel pitch and specifications.
Yes, all modules are tested for compatibility with major control systems including Novastar, Colorlight, and Linsn.
It depends on viewing distance. Close viewing (1.5-3m) needs small pitch (P1.2-P2.5). Medium distance (6-15m) needs medium pitch (P3.91-P4.81). Long distance (15m+) needs large pitch (P6-P20).you can check our free pixel tool to check more details

Yes, we offer full OEM/ODM service — including custom PCB sizes, brightness, and branding.
Yes. Every module goes through 72 hours of intensive aging tests. High temperature. High humidity. Continuous operation. We don’t ship anything that doesn’t pass.
SMD modules are more versatile and cost-effective. COB modules have better protection and fewer dead pixels. Choose SMD for most applications. Choose COB for high-end applications.
Yes. Many of our customers are engineering companies, AV integrators and local LED brands who only purchase LED modules and then combine them with their own cabinets, power supplies and control systems. We can also recommend suitable accessories if you want a complete LED screen solution.
In some cases we can. Please send us clear photos of the front and back of your current LED module, including exact size in millimeters, connector positions and any PCB markings. Our engineers will evaluate compatibility and suggest a direct replacement or an alternative solution if an identical module is no longer available.
Our LED display modules typically include a 2–3 year warranty, depending on the product series and project requirements. During the warranty period, we provide free technical support and replacement parts for confirmed quality issues. We also recommend shipping spare LED modules and key components with each order to support fast local maintenance.
For standard LED display module models, the MOQ is usually one pcs. For special or customized configurations, we will confirm the MOQ based on your pixel pitch and component selection. Sample orders are available if you want to test brightness, color and compatibility before placing a larger order.
Standard indoor and outdoor LED module models usually require 10–15 days for production after order confirmation and deposit. Special configurations or large quantities typically need 20–30 days. We will always share a detailed production and shipping schedule so you can plan installation with your project team.
